GPA Engineering offers an exciting opportunity to gain valuable skills, collaborate on impactful projects and launch your engineering career.

GPA’s Undergraduate Program is a 12-week paid placement, offered from November to February each year. This placement provides students with exposure to real projects while being given responsibility for project deliverables working under the mentorship of our experienced engineers.

Job Description

About the Internship

Our undergraduate placement provides hands-on experience where you will work on real projects and be provided with practical learning in a professional environment. You will be under the guidance of experienced process engineers and may work on multiple projects in a variety of industries. The work you do will be valuable for the completion of the projects and you will be encouraged to take ownership of the work you are doing. You will be a valued member of both the process and project teams, working with multiple disciplines. Tasks typically include:

  • Marking up engineering drawings such as P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams) and C&Es (cause and effects matrices)
  • Completing process calculations such as line sizing, hydraulics, control valve and relief valve sizing
  • Using HYSYS or PetroSim software for process simulation
  • Using Phast software for gas dispersion and consequence modelling, e.g., to determine hazardous areas
  • Creating or updating documents such as basis of design documents, FEED (front end engineering design) reports or hazardous area classification reports
  • Attendance at risk workshops such as HAZOPs (hazard and operability studies) and LOPA (layers of protection analysis).

GPA’s Undergraduate Program is open to undergraduates, Australia-wide, who are currently studying and in their penultimate year. The program can be tailored to meet individual university course requirements.
